Chaitanya Swamigal

Chaitanya Swamigal (1877-1953) was born in an orthodox Nair family. His original name was Narayana Pillai. He was a scholar in Sanskrit,Vedanta and Ayurveda. In his earlier days he was associated with  Chattambi Swamigal. He took sannyasam later from Sree Narayana Guru and became Chaitanya Swamigal. He  codified the prayer Gurupushpanjali starting with “Sree Narayana Parama Guruve Namaha”-------- and ending with  “Aghanda Sachidananda Swaroopaya Namaha”. He  made remarkable contributions in respect of the construction of temples like Jagannatha Temple at Thalassery, Sreekandeshwara temple at Kozhikode,  Sundareshwara Temple at Kannoor, Sharada Madom at  Sivagiri etc.
