Sahodaran Ayyappan

Sahodaran Ayyappan (1889-1968) was born in Cherai in a family of Ayurvedic Doctors. He was a teacher for some time. He had devoted his whole life for fighting against superstitious customs, absurd rites untouchability, casteism. He was an ardent devotee of Sree Narayana Guru and had full support from Guru. He propagated intercaste marriage and intercaste dining. He was the founder of “All Kerala Sahodara Sangham” The intercaste dining organized by him at Cherai in those days was a real revolution. Guru supported it by giving a message written in his own handwriting as “Whatever be the difference in dress, language or religion of the people, they being of the same specie, there is no harm at all in their dining together or having marital relations with one another.” Thereafter people called him “Pulayan Ayyappan”. He started a news paper named “Sahodaran” and later he was called as “Sahodaran Ayyappan”.
